How to Repurpose a Talk into a Webinar

You’ve put lots of time and research into a talk - whether it’s a keynote at an event or an internal presentation. Your audience was receptive and the feedback was positive, so you know you’re onto a good thing. How can you go about getting this talk out to a wider audience?

One simple but effective answer is to repurpose that same talk or presentation into a webinar. We did it (you can now catch it on demand) and in this blog post we share the steps we took to get one keynote talk webinar ready, the benefits, plus how you can go on to repurpose that webinar even further.

4 Benefits of Live Webinars

Let’s dive into why repurposing your talk into a webinar is a good idea.

1.  It amplifies your reach

You’ve poured countless hours into crafting this keynote. By repurposing it into a webinar, you’re extending its reach to a whole new audience. It’s an opportunity to get your message in front of fresh eyes and ears.

Of course, you can present the talk over and over at other events, but what about reaching a large, global, online audience?

2. A webinar is a lead-generation machine

Webinars are not just about sharing insights before everyone logs off. If you plan and prepare strategically, they can be powerful lead-generation tools too. Promote your webinar effectively and make it so that people sign-up to the webinar – so you get their email address.

3. You connect with your audience

Going live with a webinar offers more than just content delivery. It’s an opportunity for direct engagement. There’s something really special about offering to engage with people live – on a set day and time.

During your webinar you can host a Q&A session, where you interact with your audience in real time and provide that personal touch that leaves a lasting impression.

There could be someone who has been following you for years who finally attends the webinar and can ask you questions directly – it’s so good to offer that amount of access when you can because it builds trust.

4. The gift of repurposing

The journey doesn't end with the webinar; it's just the beginning. Repurpose the content into blog posts, social media updates, or other formats to maximize its longevity and impact. Like delivering a keynote, running a webinar involves hard work, and maximizing return on investment is key.

Now let’s talk strategy!

4 Tips for Repurposing a Talk into a Webinar

Here are four tips for seamlessly repurposing your talk into a webinar.

Tip 1 – Know your audience and develop a targeted marketing plan

Before diving in, define your target audience and tailor your marketing plan accordingly. Understand where they hang out online and how to capture their interest with your webinar. Allow plenty of time to market it, but not too much time either... people don’t tend to be too excited about a webinar in three months – think about getting the balance right. We promote ours for approximately three weeks.

Tip 2 – Revamp your content

Tweak your slides and presentation flow to suit the webinar format and resonate with a virtual audience. Adapt the content to cater to the specific needs and preferences of webinar attendees. For example, you might want to change your opening and closing slide to promote other content or add in a Q&A slide. It’s all about your audience.

Ashley Faus, Head of Lifecycle Marketing at Atlassian spoke to us about how presentation slides are her favorite content to repurpose as they have so much potential. To successfully do this, she suggests creating modular content, which can easily be broken down and built up in different ways.

Tip 3 – Choose the right platform

Select a webinar platform that aligns with your and your audience's preferences and offers ease of use. Conduct test runs if necessary to familiarize yourself with the platform and ensure a smooth experience for attendees.

We used Zoom for its ease of use and familiarity, but there are plenty of other options.

Tip 4 – Plan for repurposing

Don't stop at the webinar itself. Have a clear plan for repurposing the content post-event. Whether it's creating blog posts or repackaging for social media, be sure to maximize the value of your webinar!

So, next time you or someone in your company delivers a stellar talk, consider the potential of repurposing it into a webinar. It's not just about sharing insights; it's about maximizing your impact and extending the life of your content and generating leads.
